Education and Training

BABO welcome existing and new members to join us on our training courses. 

To become BABO accredited and join the referrals list, you will need to be a BABO member and have completed OVT 1, OVT2, and OVT 3 within a five year period. 

Continued accreditation requires some continuing education to gain BABO points in a three year cycle.

Module A Introduction to Behavioural Optometry and Module B Further Concepts in Behavioural Optometry

Developed and refined over thirty years, these courses cover the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of non-strabismic binocular visual disorders and provide the foundations for further learning in behavioural optometry.

The course has been revised and updated by Paul Adler for online delivery and is structured so that the theory is supported with study days, multiple choice questions, and mentorship.

The course fees include essential equipment to get your started and BABO membership.

OVT 2  -  The Nuts and Bolts of Optometric Vision Therapy 

A 3 day in person course

For optometrists and therapists who have attended the BABO OVT1 courses (or equivalent)

OVT2 is a three day in-person course that has a heavy emphasis on practical skills.

The course expands on the theory learnt on OVT1 and introduces vestibular, proprioceptive, use of prisms and more.

There are 20+ activities that help you develop the confidence to manage most non-strabismic binocular visual disorders.

There will be enough flexibility in the course timings to enable the course to go at your own pace and to answer many of the questions you may have about how to apply the techniques, including case planning and programming and administration of therapy in practice.

The trainer for this course will be Paul Adler This course carries 21 BABO points.

OVT 3

Vision and Learning

A 3 day in person course

Ideally suited to optometrists with an interest in learning difficulties and who has some experience of Behavioural Optometry. Prior attendance at OVT1 and OVT2 courses is essential, and attendance for all three days of this course is mandatory.

This course brings together previous learning and its application to testing and therapy. The course covers basic theories of learning difficulties, the impact of visual problems on learning, testing, vision therapy and practice management.

Comprehensive course notes will be provided within the course fee.

ADVANCED COURSES

Strabismus and Amblyopia – Optometric Assessment and Treatment (OVT4)

Practical instruction of vision therapy techniques that integrate the theory with practice will be the heart of this course.  Lens prescribing will be discussed in detail and case histories will be used to illustrate the important principles for effective lens prescribing. 

The format of this seminar has been reviewed with greater emphasis on therapy and will be of interest to those that have taken the course before as well as those new to the subject. Experienced participants will gain strong insights that allow them to meet the needs of their patients more ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø.
